Context

A group of motivated and talents friend of mine have gotten together to create a series of feasts called the “Sunday Dinner.” We put on extravagant meals for those who share the love of food. This passion for cooking has melded beautifully with my passion for art. On top of creating menus, prepping and executing meals, I took on doing our marketing/promotional as well.

Eating and drinking is the one common denominator we share as humans. Across all cultures, nothing brings people together like food.

Logo

The worlds of graphic design and illustration are so closely linked. I took this opportunity for the forward facing portion of the Sunday Dinner to showcase my skills in this. My initial thought of how to brand this was capture the feel of what these dinners mean. Cook on a Sunday and pour love into meal feels like home, warmth and good company. Visually to me, this sparked the idea of a dutch oven of the center piece. Famous for one pot meals, stewing away, it encompassed this feeling that dinner are supposed to represent. From there, I wanted to maintain the flare of my line work style and not stray too far into the bland logo territory. I feel like I was effective in this balance of simple yet exciting.

“A meal you can’t refuse”

In January 2025, we threw our second event. A meal you can’t refuse was in Italian inspired dinner. Below are two promotional pieces that I did for them. Once again, playing with this balance between design and drawing. The black and white one was done first to announce the dinner was coming up. For this, I leaned heavily into drawing for it. The idea of a meal being cooked in a semi cluttered kitchen spoke to me. Once we had more details flushed out, I made the second one where I had to rely more on design convey the important information. Visually I am very proud of this one, I feel though it is very balanced between the fonts and illustrations. This one was screen printed and given as a take away after the dinner.
